Stargazing, watercolor on paper, 2025
Dear Reader,
Welcome, vernal equinox! Happy Spring!
Stargazers are some of my favorites, and I had gotten these for myself. This morning I painted them on the back of a large envelope above. I am taking morning moments daily to be, feel, and express myself.
Yesterday I met with Dr. Hyowoun Jyung, an Integrative Medicine Specialist at Sloan. I asked about her recommendations for cancer patients and, in particular, those with HER2+ cancer, my particular type of cancer. It was great to ask her about my most worrisome symptoms, such as spotting.
She shared one great recommendation: eat 30 colors a week! That is, the doctor recommended eating a wide variety of vegetables and fruits. We spoke about eating superfoods, such as green tea, berries, flax seeds, mushrooms, leafy greens, and quinoa. I shared that my breakfast was this quinoa with bokchoi, red onions, shitake mushrooms, and sprinkles of seaweed.
1 grain + 2 or more toppings = a happy bowl : )
The doctor recommended using weekly acupuncture to help manage the symptoms of the treatment. I was excited to learn about that option. I am interested in intentional exercise, breathwork, meditation, and movement work as well.
This is the holistic approach that I was missing. I cried with a sense of relief and felt listened to and seen afterward.
